Q: Before joining Kansas City Ballet you danced for National Ballet of Cuba, how was it making the transition to an American company? Were there many things done differently?

A: The change from the National Ballet of Cuba to Kansas City Ballet was a bit abrupt. The biggest difficulty was the language, the rapidity of the movements, and the diversity of choreography.
Q: What do you miss most about your time there and what do you like most about your new home/company here?

A: What I miss most about the National Ballet of Cuba are my friends and what I like most about Kansas City Ballet is the versatility of the ballet and choreography we dance.Q: Cuban training varies quite a bit from most of the training you receive at a school or in a company here in America. How was that adjustment for you?

A: It was a bit complicated; the classes are different, the choreography is different, and the movements are faster.Q: During Nutcracker 2018, while performing Cavalier, you suffered a terrible injury onstage. Can you tell us a little about that injury and how recovery was and is going for you?

 

A: My knee injury is the most difficult injury I've faced in my career, and the longest recovery of my life. It has been a very difficult time for me this year.

Q: You had just returned to performing when COVID-19 forced Kansas City Ballet and ballet companies worldwide to cancel and postpone their seasons. What was that like and how have you continued to regain your strength and keep strong in isolation?

A: COVID-19 has been one of the things that has not allowed me to recover my physical shape and delayed my second operation.

Q: Do you have a favorite Elevé style?

A: The style I like the most is the Brock Unitard.
