Introducing the remarkable
Lily Janneck.
Join us as we talk Hawaii, motivation,
and returning to the studio with
this Ellison Ballet Student!
Q: Do you know when you will be able to return to training with Ellison Ballet?
A: I’m excited to say I started training back at Ellison Ballet on Monday, September 14.
Q: Are there any new safety regulaitons? Are masks required?
A: Yes, masks are required for the whole day. There are exceptions though for when we eat lunch and drink water. Ellison has taped the floors and barres to make sure we maintain social distancing. Unfortunately, that means our partnering classes have to be put on hold for the moment.
Q: Have you participated in any socially distanced Summer Intensives this year? If yes, how was that experience?
A: Yes, I participated in Ellison‘s virtual summer intensive. I really enjoyed the experience because it allowed me to really focus on my own dancing and personal goals. It forced me to stay focused and I wasn’t distracted by any other dancers.
Q: Your home is in Hawaii, were you able to find good training while bunkering down on the island?
A: When I was back home on Maui, I returned to my original ballet studio, Alexander Academy of Performing Arts. I reunited and trained with old teachers. It was such a great experience to be dancing back with my old dance family and they were all so supportive of me. They were very generous with their studios and allowed me to stay after the classes to practice on my own.
Q: What has kept you inspired in isolation?
A: YouTube and Instagram have been great sources of inspiration for me. Though staying motivated is difficult during isolation, seeing my favorite ballerinas work their hardest to become stronger dancers is very inspiring.
Q: What were your go to virtual classes?
A: I enjoyed watching Maria Khoreva’s Workout classes. I also like to watch Isabella Boylsten and James Whiteside’s ballet classes.
Q: Did you learn anything new about yourself, or pick up a new hobby during quarantine?
A: Because of all my free time during quarantine, I have been able to surf more. I also love that I have been able to live with my family again.
And finally,
Q: Do you have a favorite Elevé style? If so, which one?
A: I love all of Elevé’s leotards. They all have beautiful cuts and fit comfortably. If I had to pick a favorite, I really like their v cut, long sleeve leotards.
